Plastic Belts vs. Metal Belts

Since we have been involved with the inception of the plastic modular belt it has always been our interest to keep you updated on the progress that plastics have made over the years versus metal belts on a spiral system.

Three times the belt life. That’s what you can expect from plastic belting versus metal. Now we make the assumption that the belt you choose out of plastic is suitable for a spiral application.

Easier maintenance. Due mainly to the light weight and ease of replacing connector rods.

Faster speeds. plastic belts can easily run over 300FPM when the application calls for it, where metal is much more limited. New lines and new applications constantly call for higher speeds so this can be a big plus.

Higher product loads. When you consider the radius weight factors plus users going to wider belts this can be a critical point on the application, plastic belting is stronger.

There are other considerations for every spiral application but the over all choice is plastic, hands down.

One word of caution- Plastic belts using standard materials can sustain a flame when exposed to fire, so pre cautions have to be taken when the application has any potential of open flame. We have answers that make sense to you if your application has this issue so contact us.
